3 Fun Winter Activities to Try at the Beach

“Winter” and “beach” aren’t two words you often hear used in the same sentence, but there are plenty of activities to do outside of your Delaware vacation rental this winter. From taking in some cool art to playing golf, there are plenty of things to do while staying here. Oh, and did we mention shopping? There are many places to shop when you want to go somewhere indoors.

Go shopping on Rehoboth Avenue this winter if you are looking to get out and have some fun. This long stretch leading westward from Rehoboth Beach has all kinds of cool stores to browse. In fact, the aptly named Browseabout Books is so full of books that you could end up spending several hours there. You can find a lot of rare titles and editions here too. Regardless of which genre you love to read, Browseabout Books has something for you.

Just a short walk east from there is Sea Shell Shop. This teal-toned building will stand out right away and is a favorite destination for shoppers. It is conveniently located and sells all kinds of souvenirs. It even sells hermit crabs!

Penny Lane Mall is close to the beach and is a cute little alleyway that is home to a number of small storefronts. Retro and totally charming, you might feel transported back in time walking down Penny Lane on a cool winter evening.

There are plenty of little coffee shops and cafes in this area. After you’ve perused some books and souvenirs, head into one and warm up with a delicious cup of your favorite roast.

Golfing in Rehoboth Beach is a fun outdoor activity for the warmer winter days. Swing away at Baywood Greens, a world-class 18-hole Championship Golf Course. This lovely golf course has been lovingly referred to as the “Augusta of the North” for good reason. The staff here are incredibly helpful and friendly, and the price you pay to tee off here is quite reasonable.

Family-friendly Midway Par 3 is a fun 18-hole, Par 3 course found just to the north of Midway. Beginners will feel totally comfortable learning the ins and outs of golf here. The course is short enough for children to enjoy playing on, and that makes it easier to learn.

Rehoboth Art League

Do you enjoy beach art? If so, the Rehoboth Art League is a ‘must’ during your wintertime stay. It is a nature-lovers paradise and is best placed off the beaten path. You will have to go a mile away from the Avenue, but visitors know that this well-hidden gem is totally worth the trek, even in the cool air.

Immersed in trees and natural paths, you will see some majestic and historic buildings as well as a beautiful collection of art and culture. If you are an artist, bring your sketch pad and camera along. You will definitely be inspired to document your experience here. Writers will find it utterly poetic, but you don’t have to be an artist or writer to appreciate the beauty that this place has to offer.

The Rehoboth Art League’s building is on the same property as an old homestead built in 1743, which in itself is just cool to see. The artists and members who make up the Rehoboth Art League clearly care about art, nature, history, and culture.

While you’re staying at one of our Seachange rentals, be sure to get out and about. Even in the winter, there are plenty of things to see and do here in historic Rehoboth. You will find a certain magic exists here in the winter, and even though outdoor activities might be limited, there is still enough to do to occupy yourself.
