Bethany Beach eventsBethany Beach Fire and Ice Festival

Second annual winter celebration features ice skating, bonfires and plenty of family-friendly fun. About 4,000 visitors from 12 states visit to marvel at 22 ice sculptures, live sculpting demonstrations and a performance by Cascading Carlos, a Guinness World Record-holding fire juggler.

This year’s theme is “Under the Sea.” The frozen creations are located throughout the town so you can shop, sip and sup in area businesses as you make the stroll. The largest sculpture, which takes up to six hours to create, will be carved live on the Bethany Bandstand on Saturday. For a prime viewing area, attend the party on Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. at Mango’s, which has an oceanfront balcony. Tickets are $35, which includes music by the Funsters, a silent auction, light hors d’oeuvres and desserts. There’s also a cash bar.

In addition to the colossal sculptures, the festival will again feature the Southern Delaware Tourism ice rink by the playground at Pennsylvania and Garfield avenues. Rehoboth Beach Film SocietyAfrican American Film Festival

The Rehoboth Beach Film Society in partnership with The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice are proud to present the second annual Rehoboth Beach African-American Film Festival. The mission of this event is to deepen awareness of African-American cultures and experiences, and to explore community differences and commonalities through the art of film.

Four films will be presented over President’s Day weekend (Friday, February 15 – Sunday, February 17). “Black Is The Color” corrects the record on the place of artists of color within the history of American art. “Father’s Kingdom” examines the complicated legacy of a civil rights leader far ahead of his time. “Service To Man” chronicles a fraught and unlikely friendship at a historically black medical school in the South in the 1960s. Finally, “Everything But A Man” follows the life of a strong independent woman in search of love. This year’s selection of films aims to bring representation, hope, understanding, and, yes, a little bit of romance to the big screen.
